Tate has collaborated with the Heron estate and British manufacturer Fox & Chave to produce this 100% silk tie. An exclusive 2017 reproduction of Multicolour, a design created by Patrick Heron in the late 1940s, Susanna Heron remembers her father favouring this style of slender, square-ended tie.

Patrick Heron (1920-1999) was a leading British abstract painter and writer on art. Early in his career, he also designed textiles for Cresta Silks (1934-1951), and his experience as a textile designer was significant to his development as an artist. His brother Giles wrote, “I think the very way in which colour became central to his art owed a lot to the colour and designs of the textiles produced by Cresta.” Tate are pleased to reproduce some of Heron’s abstract designs for a new audience, nearly 70 years after their creation.

Dimensions: 139 cm long, 2.5 – 5.5 cm wide. Dry clean only.
