Alberto Giacometti’s Drawing of a Walking Man 1951, printed using a traditional hand-pulled silk screen on our highest quality paper with hand-torn edges, and interleaved with acid-free tissue paper. Elegantly presented in a folio, this edition also contains a curatorial insert card with information about the artwork.
Like many other artists, Giacometti was absorbed by the challenge of representing movement. The walking figure became the subject of many of his artworks, in which he tried to capture the sense of purpose and momentum using a variety of mediums. This sketch was produced for the Giacometti exhibition at Galerie Maeght, 1951.
Alberto Giacometti (10 October 1901 – 11 January 1966) was a Swiss sculptor, painter, draughtsman and printmaker. He was born in the canton Graubünden's southerly alpine valley Val Bregaglia, the son of Giovanni Giacometti, a well-known post-Impressionist painter. Coming from an artistic background, he was interested in art from an early age. He is best known for his distinctive elongated figures, which are associated with the post-war climate of existentialist despair.
