This small black Egyptian inspired pot has been produced exclusively for Tate by London based ceramicist Mizuyo Yamashita to celebrate our Alberto Giacometti retrospective exhibition at Tate Modern. Each one is handmade from a mix of stoneware, terracotta and sand clays by the artist herself.
Mizuyo Yamashita’s work has a Japanese aesthetic that stems from her Japanese roots along with wanting to make usable objects. Mizuyo is often inspired by historic pottery and tries to recreate this with a modern feel. ‘I enjoy the process of input and output to learn about the world. Pottery is the oldest artistic and practical practice and is intertwined with culture, economics and power.’ To create the Giacometti inspired ceramic range, inspiration has been drawn from ancient Egyptian pottery, works that Giacometti himself saw as a huge influence on the form, marks and textures within his sculptures.
As this product is handmade, please hand wash and dry immediately as the magnesium oxide in the glaze could lead to water marks if left to air dry. Do not microwave.
