Made exclusively to accompany the Tate Modern Giacometti retrospective, this book contains 16 postcards of Giacometti’s sculptural, painted and sketched pieces, selected from the 250 artworks on display in the exhibition. From early works such as Head of a Woman [Flora Mayo] 1926 to iconic bronze sculptures such as Walking Man I 1960, this postcard book showcases some of the key pieces of Giacometti’s impressive portfolio, in pocket sized format.
Alberto Giacometti (10 October 1901 – 11 January 1966) was a Swiss sculptor, painter, draughtsman and printmaker. He was born in the canton Graubünden's southerly alpine valley Val Bregaglia, the son of Giovanni Giacometti, a well-known post-Impressionist painter. Coming from an artistic background, he was interested in art from an early age. He is best known for his distinctive elongated figures, which are associated with the post-war climate of existentialist despair.
