Be inspired with this this red A5 notebook designed by Postalco in collaboration with the Alexander Calder Foundation. The notebook’s blank pages are indispersed with ten reproductions of photographs, drawings and textiles by Calder.
The cover design is inspired by Alexander Calder instructions for assembling the sculpture The S-Shaped Vine. Intrigued and limited by the US Post Office’s limits on sending parcels overseas, Calder created this sculpture as collapsible so it could be reassembled for an exhibition in Paris.
The cover of this notebook is made from pressed cotton and leather. The paper inside is ecologically made and chlorine free. Made in Japan.
Postalco are based in Tokyo. They create products that can be used by anyone. Their designs are distinguished by their utility and warmth blended with the beauty of understatement.
In 2000 Mike Abelson, who was a designer of bags in New York, noticed that his wife Yuri, a graphic designer, was having difficulty carting around A4 size papers. He created an envelope-shaped case for her, with a button closure, and cloth and leather he happened to have on hand. That modest beginning led to the founding of Postalco.
