Archival quality, giclée reproduction of The Tailor Mouse by Helen Beatrix Potter from Tate’s collection of Modern Art.
Printed on beautiful, high quality paper and available either framed or unframed.
The Tailor Mouse is the frontispiece from Twenty Two Illustrations from The Tailor of Gloucester and features a bespectacled mouse reading The Tailor newspaper, while sitting cross legged on a cotton reel with scissors and a thimble in the background.
The illustrations for The Tailor of Gloucester, her second and favourite book, were drawn in Gloucester and the country round about, the story being based on an actual Gloucestershire story that she heard while staying with a cousin near Stroud. The fabrics in the watercolours are said to have been taken from fabrics in the V & A.
As a young woman Beatrix had spent many holidays in the Lake District and the place she liked best was a village called Sawrey near Windermere. In 1905 she decided to use some of the income from her books and a legacy from her aunt to buy a traditional Lakeland farm in Sawrey called Hill Top. Beatrix’s interest in conservation began on her first visit to the Lake District when she was sixteen and when she died in 1943 she left fifteen farms and over 4,000 acres of land to the National Trust.
