This painting belongs to a body of Stubbs’ work produced for wealthy aristocratic patrons, commissioned as accurate portraits of race horses. Stubbs’ anatomical studies of horses, resulting in his publication The Anatomy of the Horse, greatly aided his highly naturalistic depictions.

George Stubbs was an English painter, draughtsman and printmaker. His study of anatomy enabled him to paint animals with unsurpassed truth to nature, while his innate sense of design led to graceful, rhythmic compositions. His contemporary reputation was chiefly based on portraits of horses and dogs, but he also painted human portraits, conversation pieces and imaginative subjects with animals. He later experimented with enamel painting and perfected a beautiful mixed-method printmaking technique.

We aim to deliver custom prints within 1-2 weeks. For international orders, delivery may take 2-4 weeks.

As each print is handmade to order they take a little longer to prepare. We’ll dispatch your order as soon as it is ready, separately from any other items.

Europe — £15.00 per order

Rest of world — £28.00 per order

FRAMED & CANVAS PRINTS DELIVERY CHARGES

UK — £7.50 per print

Europe — £20.00 per print

As custom prints are made to order, unfortunately we cannot accept returns if you have changed your mind or made a mistake.
