This exclusive exhibition print of Rust Red Hills has been produced for the Georgia O'Keeffe exhibition at Tate Modern. It shows one of O’Keeffe’s earlier paintings of the red hills of the New Mexico desert that became a frequently revisited subject in her work.
Born in 1887 in Wisconsin, USA, O’Keeffe lived in New York during the 1920s and 1930s. She fell in love with New Mexico on her first trip there in 1929 and regularly returned to paint before making it her permanent home in 1949. Some of O’Keeffe’s most famous work was inspired by the area’s arid landscapes and the animal skulls she collected from the desert floor.
