This grey tote bag has been made exclusively for our Giacometti retrospective exhibition at Tate Modern. It features an image of Alberto Giacometti’s celebrated sculpture The Dog 1951 on both sides of the bag.
Although it possesses a strong resemblance to a Saluki hound, Giacometti told his biographer, James Lord, that his dog was actually a form of self-portrait. ‘One day I was walking along the rue de Vanves in the rain, close to the walls of the buildings, with my head down, feeling a little sad, perhaps, and I felt like a dog just then. So I made that sculpture. But it’s not really a likeness at all.’
100% cotton canvas, sponge clean only.
