A vintage colour lithographic poster printed by Parisian printers Atelier Mourlot for an exhibition of their lithographs at The Seibu Department Store in 1984.
Founded in the 1920's, the Atelier Mourlot was the largest and best known print shop to manufacture lithographic works including exhibition posters. 20th century artists such as Matisse and Picasso would be involved in the production of exhibition posters printed by Mourlot, as they recognised that these images, shown on streets, buses and bulletin boards, would have the broadest audience.
The poster design is a reproduction of the piece used for a Mourlot Centennial exhibition created by Matisse in 1952. The design features Matisse’s unique cut-out style and bold colours.
Available online only. 73 cm cm x 52.1 cm.
