Poster of Ilya and Emilia Kababov’s work, The Scene at the Square 2015, created to coincide with the Ilya and Emilia Kabakov: Not Everyone Will Be Taken Into The Future exhibition.
The Scene at the Square is part of The Six Paintings about the Temporary Loss of Eyesight, a collection of paintings where the surface is covered with large dots, rendering the viewer unable to completely focus on the image behind.
The Kabakovs are best known for their large-scale installations and fictional characters. Exploring the conventions of art history and the visual culture of the former Soviet Union – from dreary communal apartments to propaganda art and its highly optimistic depictions of Soviet life – their work explores ideas of fantasy and reality, hope and fear.
