A special print collection of J. M. W Turner’s watercolours. Giclée printed on Somerset Enhanced 100% cotton rag paper with hand-finished edges and printed in the UK. Comes in a silver coloured presentation box.
Joseph Mallord William Turner was born in 1775 and died in 1851. His lifetime was the golden age of watercolour when the medium came of age as an independent art, was shown in its own exhibitions and grew in stature to rival oil painting. Turner was at the forefront of these developments, harnessing the innate transparency, fluidity and immediacy of water-based media and their full colouristic range to make evocative and emotionally satisfying works of art - from spontaneous sketches to highly finished subjects for exhibitions and collectors. Unmatched at the time or since, his mastery of watercolour reached its peak in the last fifteen years of his life.
In this portfolio Tate presents four very different but characteristic watercolours from Turner’s later years drawn from Tate’s own collection.
