Green vase made by Norman Yap, a British London based potter. Norman makes wheel-thrown bowl, bottle and vase forms in either stoneware or porcelain. His forms are strikingly simple and gain their identity from their size, choice of clay, glazes and surface embellishment.
For The EY Exhibition: Late Turner Painting Set Free exhibition at Tate Britain, a trio of forms has been specially produced in partnership with the gallery, in a green inspired by Turner's seascapes. The forms have been thrown from stoneware clay stained with a mixture of metallic oxides plugged into the clay.
These oxides remain invisible after the forms are thrown and turned and only become visible after the firing during which they bleed through the blue green matte glaze. As such, each piece is similar to its counterparts but remains unique and impossible to precisely predict.
