Reproduced from vintage Tate exhibition posters from our archives, these high quality prints showcase the gallery’s unique history. Includes a white border.
Joan Miro’s work first came to prominence between the two world wars and so by 1964 he was already an established figure in England. However, Miro’s work had previously only featured in four or five small exhibitions in the UK the last one having been in 1950.
The 1964 Tate Gallery exhibition organised by the Arts Council was the first full retrospective of his career seen in this country presenting 230 of his works including 15 ceramics. The selection was made by Roland Penrose assisted by Miro who also loaned a number of works from his collection.
Miro also designed the exhibition poster specially for the retrospective which attracted over 41,790 visitors.
