This sketchbook has been specially created for the Tate Modern exhibition The Radical Eye. It features Man Ray's photograph Glass Tears, 1932 and has blank pages throughout.
Man Ray was a leading figure in the dada and surrealist movements of the early 1900s and pioneered innovative photographic techniques such as camera-less rayographs. He became a successful portrait and fashion photographer and created Glass Tears, 1932 for a cosmetic advertisement, which combines Man Ray’s passion for both surrealism and photography.
The Radical Eye exhibition at Tate Modern displays Sir Elton John’s private photography collection. These rare photographic prints are taken from the classic Modernist period of the 1920s through to the 1950s and include such famous artists as Alexandr Rodchenko and Man Ray.
