It depicts the arid desert landscape of New Mexico that O’Keeffe loved so much with the distinctive red hills of the local area in contrast to the white animal bones.
O’Keeffe was born in 1887 in Wisconsin, USA, but made many paintings and studies of the New Mexico area where she regularly visited her house in Ghost Ranch, before moving there permanently in 1949.
