Gwen John was an artist with a singular vision, one whose intense gaze produced some of the most beguiling and atmospheric paintings of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Often unfairly thought of as a recluse, this concise survey of her life and work places her at the artistic heart of London and Paris. A seminal figure within these groups, her work is reappraised in that context and explored in terms of the alliances and differences John had with her contemporaries. Gwen John’s representation of the female nude, her paintings of interiors and the effect of her Catholic faith on her work are all discussed. The author also discusses the key relationship between Gwen John’s position as a woman artist and her life-long fascination with the portrayal of the female sitter.

Due to the nature of our Limited Edition artworks, Tate offers rates for packaging materials to sufficiently protect the works and a fully insured, door-to-door courier service, for both UK and international shipping.
Rugs
Rugs are dispatched directly from the Christopher Farr workshop, so they will arrive separately from any other items ordered from Tate Shop.

As each item of furniture is made to order, delivery takes 12-14 weeks, and will arrive separately to any other items in your Tate Shop order.
Food & Wine
Our collection of food and wine is only available for delivery in the UK. We currently offer free delivery on wine orders over £100, using a specialist white glove service within the M25 area.
Wine: UK only – £20 per order
Please note that our wines can only be purchased by those aged 18 years and over. Customers will be asked to provide proof of age upon delivery.

Please contact our customer service team within 45 days if you need to return anything from your order. We will be happy to offer you a full refund, replacement or exchange on any items excluding custom prints, Goldfinger + Tate furniture, face coverings and pierced earrings. We cannot cover the cost of returning the items, unless we've made a mistake or they are faulty.
