The Dinner Party is an installation in the form of a huge ceremonial banquet at a triangular table set for 39 guests, all important female historical figures. The imagery Chicago devised for each place setting is tailored to each of the women being honoured. Caroline Herschel (1750 – 1848) was a German astronomer - she was the first woman to be awarded a a Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1828, and to be named an Honorary Member of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1835. She discovered several comets during her career and continued to work well into her old age, being awarded the Gold Medal for Science by the King of Prussia at the age of 96.
Judy Chicago is an artist, author, feminist and educator. She works in a variety of media, often using traditional crafts such as needlework and china-painting. The unifying goal of her work is to make a place for female-centred imagery and to overcome the erasure of women’s achievements in art and society.

Neon lights will be delivered in 2-4 weeks, as they are made in small batches and shipped separately from other items.

European Union – £15 per order
Rest of world (including non-EU European countries) – £28 per order
Limited editions
Due to the nature of our Limited Edition artworks, Tate offers rates for packaging materials to sufficiently protect the works and a fully insured, door-to-door courier service, for both UK and international shipping.
Rugs
Rugs are dispatched directly from the Christopher Farr workshop, so they will arrive separately from any other items ordered from Tate Shop.

As each item of furniture is made to order, delivery takes 12-14 weeks, and will arrive separately to any other items in your Tate Shop order.
Food & Wine
Our collection of food and wine is only available for delivery in the UK. We currently offer free delivery on wine orders over £100, using a specialist white glove service within the M25 area.
Wine: UK only – £20 per order
Please note that our wines can only be purchased by those aged 18 years and over. Customers will be asked to provide proof of age upon delivery.

Refunds & returns
Please contact our customer service team within 45 days if you need to return anything from your order. We will be happy to offer you a full refund, replacement or exchange on any items excluding custom prints, Goldfinger + Tate furniture, face coverings and pierced earrings. We cannot cover the cost of returning the items, unless we've made a mistake or they are faulty.
