Snapback caps were a fundamental part of the hip hop fashion scene in the mid 1980s, so they’re a fitting canvas for Keith Haring’s artwork – Haring himself was a huge fan of hip hop, and a key figure in the New York club scene. This snapback, flat-visor cap features an all over print of Keith Haring’s Fun Gallery, 1983, and Haring’s signature embroidered at the back.
This dynamic piece by Haring was originally created as a poster to promote his 1983 exhibition at FUN Gallery in New York’s East Village. FUN Gallery (1981-5) was founded by Bill Stelling and actress Patti Astor, and held one-artist shows by graffiti and street artists, branding itself as ‘the first art gallery in the East Village’.
Keith Haring (1958 – 1990) was an American artist, and one of the leading figures of the graffiti art movement which emerged from New York in the 1980s. His work reflected a profound commitment to social justice and activism, raising issues that remain relevant today, including the AIDS crisis, racism, and environmental degradation.
Diamond supply co. was founded in 1998 when Nicholas Tershay (aka Nick Diamond) created a skateboard hardware line from his one-bedroom apartment in San Francisco. Over the past two decades, Diamond Supply co. has grown into a full range of skateboards and. With its strong aesthetic and commitment to creating high quality goods, Diamond Supply co. remains popular with skate and street fashion communities alike.
