Description
Sourced in Tokyo, Japan by British contemporary vintage company Unified Goods, this Keith Haring skateboarder shirt is a Pop Shop original from the early 90s, and was sold in Haring’s Pop Shop. A must for vintage t-shirt or contemporary art culture collectors, Unified Goods say that Pop Shop originals are very rarely seen in the vintage market.

Keith Haring and Andy Warhol were good friends, and shared a drive to make art accessible to everyone. To this end, Haring opened the Pop Shop – a store selling commercial goods with Haring’s original designs. Haring explained the aims of the Pop Shop as: ‘I wanted to continue this same sort of communication as with the subway drawings. I wanted to attract the same wide range of people, and I wanted it to be a place where, yes, not only collectors could come, but also kids from the Bronx.’ The first store opened in New York in 1986, and closed in 2005.

This rare t-shirt was chosen for Unified Goods’ collection of archival t-shirts and accessories for our 2020 Andy Warhol exhibition in honour of Haring’s and Warhol’s friendship and mutual artistic influence.

Size guide: Length 73 x Chest 49 cm.

Please note that measurements are taken flat. This is a vintage item in good condition, but some signs of age may be expected.
