Narrow eyed surgeons peer out of the frame at us over the exposed belly of their patient in Monro’s effective five-colour screenprint. Screen printing is a technique where mesh is used to transfer ink onto a surface. Layers of ink can be built up, with some areas protected from saturation by blocks or ink-resistant coatings.

Born in London, 1936, Nicholas Monro is an English sculptor, print-maker and art teacher, well known for both his brightly coloured prints and his large scale fiberglass sculptures. He is one of the few British pop artists who specialises in both sculpture and print.
