Description
Featuring an image by Pablo Picasso, this colour lithographic poster was produced by Atelier Mourlot as part of an exhibition held at Seibu Department Stores, Tokyo, in 1984. Titled 50 Years of Lithography at Atelier Mourlot, the exhibition featured prints by Matisse, Miro, Leger and Braque alongside this piece by Picasso. Printed as a limited edition of 2000 in 1984.

After taking over Atelier Mourlot from his grandfather in the 1920s, Fernand Mourlot’s exhibition posters proved so popular that museum attendance notably increased. This success allowed him to collaborate with some of the most famous artists of the era – artists like Braque, Calder, Chagall, Dufy, Léger, Matisse, Miró and Picasso - on traditional limestone lithography. Picasso began working with Atelier Mourlot in 1945, and created nearly 400 lithograph designs over 20 years.

This limited edition poster was printed in 1984 by Atelier Mourlot in Paris, using traditional stone lithograph techniques. Tate is pleased to offer some of the last remaining copies of this classic poster. The poster has been kept in excellent condition, however as this item is over thirty years old, please be aware that there may be some very light signs of age.

Dimensions: 75 x 55 cm, image size 72 x 52 cm.
