Additional Information

Original vintage exhibition poster from Rachel Whiteread: Shedding Life, 1997 at Tate Liverpool. With a photograph of Whiteread’s House, 1993 taken by John Davies, it’s an impactful reminder of an excellent exhibition.

The 1997exhibition contained Whitread’s plaster, resin and rubber domestic sculptures, as well as many of her drawings, prints and the model for the Judenplatz Holocaust Memorial in Vienna. It was the most substantial showing of Whiteread's work in Britain to date, giving visitors the chance to experience her sculptures together, offering new meanings in their shared space.

The text on the poster reads:

About the artist:

Rachel Whiteread is a British contemporary artist, who works with sculpture, photography and drawing. She often uses industrial materials such as plaster, concrete, resin, rubber and metal to cast the ‘negative spaces’ or volumes in and around familiar everyday objects such as chairs and bathtubs, or architectural spaces. In 1993 she won the Turner Prize, the same year as she made her first large-scale public project, House, a concrete cast of a nineteenth- century terraced house in London’s east end. Tate has had four exhibitions of her work, and there are a number of her sculptures and drawings in the collection.
