In 1959 Tove Jansson, the author and illustrator of the Moomin books, was commissioned to illustrate a Swedish language edition of Lewis Carroll's masterpiece. She proved an inspired choice, the enigmatic charms of her illustrative style bringing the beauty and strangeness of Carroll's tale to life, as the minds of two of the greatest children's authors of the past 150 years met on the page.
Remarkably, amid the huge, worldwide success of her stories from Moominvalley, Jansson's unique edition of The Hunting of the Snark was forgotten, remaining un-available for over fifty years. Now, for the first time, her beautiful illustrations are matched with the original English text in this facsimile edition, so that readers can enjoy this wonderful adventure afresh through the eyes of one of Europe's finest illustrators.
Lewis Carroll (1832-98) is the pseudonym of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. Carroll was a mathematics lecturer who in his spare time penned poems, short stories and children's tales as well as puzzles and games of logic. He was also a pioneering photographer.
Finnish author and illustrator Tove Jansson (1914-2001) is most famous for her much-loved Moomin characters. A novelist, painter, illustrator and cartoonist, Jansson's books have been translated into over forty languages.

Limited editions
Due to the nature of our Limited Edition artworks, Tate offers rates for packaging materials to sufficiently protect the works and a fully insured, door-to-door courier service, for both UK and international shipping.
Rugs
Rugs are dispatched directly from the Christopher Farr workshop, so they will arrive separately from any other items ordered from Tate Shop.

As each item of furniture is made to order, delivery takes 12-14 weeks, and will arrive separately to any other items in your Tate Shop order.
Food & Wine
Our collection of food and wine is only available for delivery in the UK. We currently offer free delivery on wine orders over £100, using a specialist white glove service within the M25 area.
Wine: UK only – £20 per order
Please note that our wines can only be purchased by those aged 18 years and over. Customers will be asked to provide proof of age upon delivery.

Please contact our customer service team within 45 days if you need to return anything from your order. We will be happy to offer you a full refund, replacement or exchange on any items excluding custom prints, Goldfinger + Tate furniture, face coverings and pierced earrings. We cannot cover the cost of returning the items, unless we've made a mistake or they are faulty.
