          Artist details

          Swiss painter Samuel Hieronymous Grimm became established as a painter of topographical views in oil and watercolour but also produced book illustration. He became well known in England for his satirical and caricature drawings and illustrations to Shakespeare. From 1776 he was employed to make drawings for the Natural History and Antiquities and important houses.
