Leaves and Shell is one of the few of Fernand Léger's paintings to feature natural forms. The curving line down the left-hand side of the painting and the organic shape of the leaves, shell and string are a direct contrast to the geometric, abstract background.

  • Credit Oil paint on canvas. Purchased in 1949
French painter and designer Fernand Léger, was born in Agentan, Normandy in 1881. In 1909 he participated in the Cubist movement and developed a semi- abstract style. He fought during the First World War and took refuge in the USA during the Second World War. In the USA he made compositions of athletes. Upon return to France in 1945 he continued to paint but he also worked as a designer for the ballet.

As each print is handmade to order they take a little longer to prepare. We’ll dispatch your order as soon as it is ready, separately from any other items.

As custom prints are made to order, unfortunately we cannot accept returns if you have changed your mind or made a mistake.
