Mini print of Alberto Giacometti’s Diego 1953.
Giacometti frequently used his brother Diego as a model. The artist regarded each sitting as a new experience, stating ‘When he poses for me I don’t recognise him’. As with many of his other models, Giacometti made many paintings of Diego in the same pose over a number of years, producing an intense series of images, especially in the late 1950s.
Alberto Giacometti (10 October 1901 – 11 January 1966) was a Swiss sculptor, painter, draughtsman and printmaker. He was born in the canton Graubünden's southerly alpine valley Val Bregaglia, the son of Giovanni Giacometti, a well-known post-Impressionist painter. Coming from an artistic background, he was interested in art from an early age. He is best known for his distinctive elongated figures, which are associated with the post-war climate of existentialist despair.
Our mini prints feature a white border and the image title. Produced in the UK.
