The subject of this work, Marguerite Kelsey, was professional artist model. Her dress and shoes were chosen by Frampton and the style is deliberately modern. The simple pale dress, low heeled shoes and straight hair were elements of the 1920’s ‘garçonne’ style, developed by designers Chanel and Patou. However, despite the modern dress, the simplicity of her outfit conveys a classical Grecian touch.
