Of the nearly three hundred sketchbooks now in the care of the Clore Gallery, the little book reproduced here is one of the most delightful and fascinating. It marks an important stage in the development of Turner’s practice as a draughtsman and was in use when he was only 21 years old. Originally marked with ‘Copies of Wilson’ on the cover, this charming little book is a testimony to the phase of studenthood in Turner’s development, Richard Wilson being the supreme exponent of landscape painting in eighteenth century Britain, and Turner’s hero and chief model.
This edition of the sketchbook reproduces all these beautiful drawings and watercolours, with an illustrated introduction by Turner expert Andrew Wilton discussing their background and impact.
Andrew Wilton was curator of the Turner Collection at the Clore Gallery, Tate Britain and has written several other books on J.M.W. Turner, the sublime, British painting and watercolours.

Due to the nature of our Limited Edition artworks, Tate offers rates for packaging materials to sufficiently protect the works and a fully insured, door-to-door courier service, for both UK and international shipping.
Rugs
Rugs are dispatched directly from the Christopher Farr workshop, so they will arrive separately from any other items ordered from Tate Shop.

As each item of furniture is made to order, delivery takes 12-14 weeks, and will arrive separately to any other items in your Tate Shop order.
Food & Wine
Our collection of food and wine is only available for delivery in the UK. We currently offer free delivery on wine orders over £100, using a specialist white glove service within the M25 area.
Wine: UK only – £20 per order
Please note that our wines can only be purchased by those aged 18 years and over. Customers will be asked to provide proof of age upon delivery.

Please contact our customer service team within 45 days if you need to return anything from your order. We will be happy to offer you a full refund, replacement or exchange on any items excluding custom prints, Goldfinger + Tate furniture, face coverings and pierced earrings. We cannot cover the cost of returning the items, unless we've made a mistake or they are faulty.
