Confusion and Materiality. In 1937 Barbara Hepworth wrote 'Vitality is not physical, organic attribute of sculpture - it is a spiritual inner life. Power is not man power or physical capacity - it is an inner force and energy.' Although Eva Rothschild's approach to materials differ from Hepworth's, they share a belief in the transcendental power of the object.
