Sir Arnesby Brown was a painter of landscape and cattle under the influence of the Barbizon School and Impressionism. He was born in 1866 in Nottingham and studied at Nottingham, later under Andrew McCallum, and at Bushey under Herkomer. Married Mia Edwards, painter of children, in 1896. Brown spent the winters at St Ives, Cornwall, and the summers in Norfolk until 1920 when he took a house in Chelsea, London and spent the winters there until his wife died 1931.
