The vivid, fluid strokes of the boy’s green coat, and the odd, titled angle of his head make this painting instantly recognisable as part of Schiele’s body of work. The directness of the boy’s gaze is both challenging and intimate.

Due to the condition of the original work, this print is only available up to 60 x 45 cm in our size and frame options.

Egon Schiele (1890 – 1918) was an Austrian figurative artist. Mentored by Gustav Klimt, Schiele’s work used expressive lines, pops of bright colour, and a fluid sketch style. His radical approach to the human figure was both a source of celebration and scandal in his own time and for many years after. His choice of models and explicit nude portraiture lead to his arrest in 1912, and even 15 years after his death his work was condemned by Hitler as ‘degenerate art’ and disposed of through private sales or possibly even incinerated. Schiele died aged 28, a victim of the Spanish flu pandemic.
