Katz here paints a study of a sunlit, densely tree-lined road in oils. It has been suggested that a melancholic undercurrent in this work shows the influence of Edvard Munch on the artist. Small oil paintings such as this one are sketched from life and often intended to be scaled up into larger works, capturing the energy and feeling of the setting en plein air.
