Bowling’s titles are deliberately elusive, inviting us with their familiarity, but denying us the context and additional details necessary for us to make sense of them in relation to the paintings themselves. Even though we may not be able to grasp the full meaning of the title, the ‘woosh’ might feel appropriate to viewers enjoying the sweep and flow of Bowling’s paints here, in yellows and blues suggestive of tides and shores.

Frank Bowling (born 1934) moved to Britain in his late teens from Guyana, and studied painting at the Royal College of Art alongside David Hockney, R.B. Kitaj and Derek Boshier, graduating in 1962 with the Silver Medal in painting. Bowling’s work combines figuration, abstract elements, contemporary and autobiographical references with intense experimentation and exploration of the possibilities of paint. He was elected as a member of the Royal Academy of Arts in 2005, and awarded an OBE in 2008. He continues to work in his studios in New York and London.

As each print is handmade to order they take a little longer to prepare. We’ll dispatch your order as soon as it is ready, separately from any other items.
