Additional Information
The edition relates to Abigail Lane’s work, Bottom Wallpaper, 1992–7, which covers a gallery wall in the exhibition. It shows a repeat pattern of twenty bottom prints, which were created by the artist’s model sitting in an ink-pad chair and pressing her body onto the wallpaper. The installation subverts the idea of the unique autograph. Lane refers to it as ‘a kind of artistic mooning’. She described the process of wrapping a gallery with this intimate imagery as ‘both joke and protest’, bringing ‘a kind of defiance to the gallery walls’.
Each of the twenty bottom prints have been recreated as a high-quality digital pigment print and is repeated three times to make a varied edition of 60. The edition demonstrates the subtle variations in shape and ink-density of each impression. Adding a final witty touch, every print features a custom blind-emboss stamp in the lower right corner featuring the title, ARSE OVER TATE, a playful take on the common British phrase, ‘arse over tit’.
Each artwork is signed and numbered by the artist on the front. Prices of the artwork are liable to change. As a limited edition sells out, prices of the artwork are subject to increase and the price will be clearly indicated.
