Ahmet Doğu İpek, Ma, Day and Night, 2026

Additional Information

Please note that this edition is available for pre-order and will be despatched from Monday 16th February.

Ahmet Doğu İpek has generously produced Ma, Day and Night, 2026, a limited edition artwork on the occasion of the exhibition, Iron Earth Copper Sky, at Tate St Ives, 18 October 2025 – 8 March 2026.

İpek often explores themes of transformation, endurance and passing of time in his work. In Ma, Day and Night, 2026, the journey of a comet is mapped out across the paper. It begins in the light field, representing daytime, and enters the black field, representing nighttime. The black field was created by İpek, who worked meticulously on a stone plate, and the master printmakers at Dou Print Studio in Ankara, Turkey, who hand-printed it. İpek’s use of a monochrome palette and fine detail brings attention to subtle variations in light, texture and movement in the scene. The path of the comet was hand-engraved by İpek, creating a cut on the surface of the paper and physically connecting day to night. The hand-engraved intervention makes each print unique.

Each artwork is signed and numbered by the artist on the front. Prices of the artwork are liable to change. As a limited edition sells out, prices of the artwork are subject to increase and the price will be clearly indicated.

Ahmet Doğu İpek (b. 1983, Turkey) mainly works with watercolour, ink, and charcoal on paper, using a slow and detailed process. His art explores how built environments and nature connect, often using repeating patterns and shapes to reflect natural forms. He builds up layers of marks, focusing on small changes in light, texture and movement. In addition to his works produced with watercolour and ink, İpek realises multi-dimensional installations and site-specific works, collaborating with artists from various disciplines.

Recent solo exhibitions include Arter, Istanbul, Turkey (2022), Galeri Nev Istanbul, Turkey (2019), and Galata Greek School, Istanbul, Turkey (2017). He has participated in numerous group exhibitions including at Museum Morsbroich, Leverkusen, Germany (2024); Istanbul Modern, Istanbul, Turkey (2024); Zeyrek Çinili Hamam, Istanbul, Turkey (2023); Arter, Istanbul, Turkey (2019); Abdülmecid Efendi Mansion, Istanbul, Turkey (2019); Odunpazari Modern Museum, Eskisehir, Turkey (2019). He completed an artist residency at Porthmeor Studios in St Ives in 2025, and in Cité des Arts, Paris, in 2018. İpek’s works are included in institutional collections such as Arter, Istanbul Modern and Odunpazari Modern Museum. He lives and works in Istanbul, Turkey.
