The green shadow cast by Katz’s slender-trunked trees has echoes of his earlier 1989 sketch, Young Trees
, yet the bright yellow of the floor gives this painting a much lighter tone. The decentralised cropping of the composition shows the influence of Japanese wood block prints on Katz’s work and practice.
