Andy Warhol Skull maharishi stadium jacket

This cotton twill stadium jacket is part of an exclusive Tate collaboration with environmentally conscious designer clothing company maharishi and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. A raw edge applique skull from Andy Warhol’s Skull, 1976 series adorns the back of the jacket, as well as a signature and quote from Andy Warhol himself - ‘Everybody’s sense of beauty is different from everybody else’s’ - embroidered in the artist’s handwriting.

Alongside centre front press snap openings, ribbed cuffs, hem and collar and two front pockets, the jacket also features a Tate and maharishi collaborative logo, encompassing our distinctive dot logo and a red embroidered Maharishi signature. As you might expect from a Maharishi jacket, it has internal carry shoulder straps, allowing you to carry it hands-free if you need to take it off.

Andy Warhol’s work had always contained themes related to death and life, but after he nearly died from a gunshot wound in 1968, he became even more obsessed with death as a concept. In his Skull series Warhol explores this theme – the skull, screenprinted from a photograph taken by one of Warhol’s assistants, is shown in block colours, to emphasise the areas of light and shadow.
