Sunday Night
Additional Information
Nashashibi’s practice, comprising of film-making, painting and print-making, chronicles intimate moments of contemporary life with an empathetic and personal approach. Her films explore the ways in which we interact with our environment and with each other, finding interest in everyday situations and merging them with fantastical and mythological elements. Similarly, her paintings and prints take forms and figures from the everyday and present them in an abstract or ambiguous environment, calling into question our conception of reality.
In Sunday Night, 2021, Nashashibi portrays an adolescent girl who is experiencing anxiety and despair in front of her reflection, dreading the approaching return to school on Monday morning. Alongside the girl, a bird, as a purer part of nature, regards his image with open curiosity and is unbothered by the despair of the girl beside him. The dividing line, often a water line, appears in many of her recent paintings, each half showing an alternative experience of a continuous reality. The limited edition lithograph print comes after an oil-on-linen painting of the same title. Rather than a reproduction of the painting, Nashashibi has created this new work by hand-drawing each printing plate, taking advantage of the layering of plates to create a multitude of vivid colours.
Each print is signed and numbered by the artist and comes unframed.
Prices of the artwork are liable to change. As a limited edition sells out, prices of the artwork are subject to increase and the price will be clearly indicated.
