Using a picture of Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s Monna Vanna, 1866 (a work he described as 'probably the most effective as a room decoration that I have ever painted'), the poster text for the exhibition reads:

A society of young artists and writers, including William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais, and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was founded in London in 1848. They were known for controversially rebelling against the classical academic painting conventions of the day, preferring medieval romanticism and a new realism. They were inspired by theories of John Ruskin who urged artists to 'go to nature', and their work predominantly dealt with religious themes, love, death, and subjects from literature and poetry.
