Additional Information

Yinka Shonibare has generously produced two limited edition screen prints on the occasion of The 90s: Art and Fashion, Tate Britain, 8 October 2026 – 14 February 2027.

The two editions are the first in a new series of prints, Earth Pictures, which highlights the devastating effects industrialisation, deforestation and the use of fossil fuels is having on the environment. This series depicts endangered monkeys that once thrived in Africa before the onset of Western colonial industrialisation. Forest loss and overhunting are eroding African tropical biodiversity and threatening local human food security, livelihoods, and health. Some of Africa’s most endangered primates are illustrated, alongside African ancestral masks, representing preindustrial African harmony when people had a deep connection, respect, and relationship with nature. Earth Picture I, 2026, features a Black and White Ruffed Lemur, and this edition, Earth Picture II, 2026, depicts a Zanzibar Red Colobus. Both works feature a Gelede mask.

Each artwork is signed and numbered by the artist. Prices of the artwork are liable to change. As a limited edition sells out, prices of the artwork are subject to increase and the price will be clearly indicated.

Yinka Shonibare CBE (b. 1962, London, UK) works with a broad range of materials, including Dutch wax textiles and bronze, as vehicles for exploring complex historical, political, and cultural ideas. In doing so, the work uses material history as a lens for broader reflection, inviting a rethinking of how we perceive culture and encouraging new ways of understanding the world around us. He was born in London to Nigerian parents, and grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, before returning to London to study Fine Art at Byam Shaw School of Art in 1989. He received his MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London in 1991. His dual identity as British-Nigerian has been the starting point for much of his work.

Shonibare was commissioned for Documenta XI in 2002. He was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2004. His mid-career survey toured Sydney, Brooklyn and Washington, D.C. in 2008–09. In 2010, his public art commission, Nelson's Ship in a Bottle, was displayed on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. He became a Royal Academician in 2013 and was awarded a CBE in 2019, when Tate acquired The British Library. In 2021, he received the Whitechapel Gallery Art Icon Award and held a major retrospective in Salzburg. In 2022, Shonibare launched the non-profit Guest Artists Space (G.A.S.) Foundation. In 2023, he created Decolonised Structures for Sharjah Biennial 15 and unveiled Hibiscus Rising in Leeds. He presented Suspended States at the Serpentine and exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 2024. He held his first major solo exhibition in Africa, Safiotra [Hybridités/Hybridities], in Madagascar in 2025. Shonibare’s works are in notable museum collections internationally. He lives and works in London, UK.
