British Surrealist and occultist Ithell Colquhoun was a queer woman who stood up for her beliefs and interests in the male-dominated art world of the 1930s. Breaking ties with the Surrealist group rather than abandon her spiritual beliefs, Colquhoun became a recognised authority on occultism and British mysticism. The design chosen for these boots is an enamel artwork from the 1970s, which Colquhoun created using ‘psychic automatism’ – painting without conscious thought, just pure expression and colour.

The 8-eyelet lace up leather boots feature Dr. Martens signature yellow stitching, loop tag and air cushioned soles. First made in Britain in 1960, Dr. Martens boots are now as famous for their creativity as their durability. Smooth and soft Backhand leather is the canvas for Ithell Colquhoun’s artwork, accurately colour-matched to the original artwork.
