Description
Mini print of The Acrobat and his Partner , 1948, by Fernand Léger.

Since childhood Léger had been fascinated by the circus, but later in life the circus came to take on additional meaning for him and his work. In post-war France, the circus was seen as a space where performance, music and art could be accessed by all of society, rather than just a privileged few. By then a member of the Communist party, Léger made many works trying to capture the dynamism of circus performers. This particular piece combines the theatricality of the performers and their bright target background with a domestic setting, as a static grey cat watches from a chair.

French painter and designer Fernand Léger, was born in Agentan, Normandy in 1881. His work encompasses cubist and semi-abstract styles, and in his later years he also worked in design for the stage. Léger also became an active advocate for peace, and in 1948 became a founder-member of the National Council of the World Peace Movement.

All our mini prints measure 28 x 35.6 cm and include a white border with full artwork credit line.

Our mini prints are produced on 250 gsm matt art paper using a four colour flat-bed digital printer. We work with only UK based PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forestry Certification) and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified suppliers for our print products.
