Dial is an example of the abstract art which made Guston into one of the most celebrated American abstract artists in the 1950s. In pieces like this one, he used colours that he was drawn to, applying the paint in layers to ‘see what would happen’. Mainly pink, grey, red and green, Guston added some shades of blue to the right hand side, a colour he said he struggled with.
At 70 x 50 cm, this poster is a large-scale quality print, with a white border and the artwork credit line printed underneath the image. Printed on FSC certified paper at our Sussex-based printmakers, It’s perfectly matched with our 50 x 70 cm frames, too.
About the artist
Philip Guston (1913 – 1980) was a Canadian American artist, who worked in painting, drawing, printmaking and murals. The son of Jewish immigrants who had escaped persecution in what is now Ukraine, Guston was raised in the United States. Along with Jackson Pollack, Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning, Guston’s abstract works in the 1950s and 60s made him one of the most celebrated American abstract painters of the time. During the social and political upheavals of the late 1960s, Guston rejected abstraction, and instead developed a practice involving large-scale paintings and comic-like figures, some in white hoods representing evil and the everyday perpetrators of racism.

Please note that some items are dispatched separately if they are made to order (such as coffee, custom prints and custom print clothing, neon lights or furniture). This means that if you order these items alongside other shop products, they won’t all arrive together, and you’ll get several deliveries.

European Union – £15 per order
Rest of world (including non-EU European countries) – £28 per order
Limited editions
Due to the nature of our Limited Edition artworks, Tate offers rates for packaging materials to sufficiently protect the works and a fully insured, door-to-door courier service, for both UK and international shipping.
Rugs
Rugs are dispatched directly from the Christopher Farr workshop, so they will arrive separately from any other items ordered from Tate Shop.

As each item of furniture is made to order, delivery takes 12-14 weeks, and will arrive separately to any other items in your Tate Shop order.
Food & Wine
Our collection of food and wine is only available for delivery in the UK. We currently offer free delivery on wine orders over £100, using a specialist white glove service within the M25 area.
Wine: UK only – £20 per order
Please note that our wines can only be purchased by those aged 18 years and over. Customers will be asked to provide proof of age upon delivery.

Refunds & returns
Please contact our customer service team within 45 days if you need to return anything from your order. We will be happy to offer you a full refund, replacement or exchange on any items excluding custom prints, Goldfinger + Tate furniture, face coverings and pierced earrings. We cannot cover the cost of returning the items, unless we've made a mistake or they are faulty.
