German conceptual artist Rosemarie Trockel has generously produced Pattern is a Teacher
, 2019, a limited edition print in support of Tate.
The digital collage combines an image of one of her iconic wool works of the same title, with a found image from the internet. The geometric stripe wool work has been inserted into a latched window of the kiosk becoming an extension of the abstract work. The monochromatic lines of the kiosk intersecting with the bold knitted lines. Removing the wool work from its usual context of a gallery space and rendering the kiosk part of the abstract composition, the edition demonstrates Trockel’s ongoing interest in displacement, juxtaposition and allusion.
The limited edition of 70 and is signed and numbered by the artist and comes unframed.
Prices of the artwork are liable to change. As a limited edition sells out, prices of the artwork are subject to increase and the price will be clearly indicated.

Rosemarie Trockel is widely known for her multi-media practice, with her body of work including prints, collages, paintings, sculptures, videos and installations. She disregards conventional hierarchies in the visual arts, often adopting materials traditionally associated with crafts and domesticity, such as textiles. Since the mid-1980s, Trockel has been producing geometric knitted works using an industrial knitting machine. These began as “Strickbilder”, or “knitted pictures”, and later included balaclavas and other wearable items. Using bold lines, blocks of colour and repeating patterns, Trockel’s knitted pictures transform the wool into something closer to a twentieth century abstract painting.
