This set of sketching pencils is inspired by the preparatory studies of David Bomberg. Scan the QR code on the pack to get a practical guide to the techniques Bomberg used, and use the break-resistant, soft lead graphite and coloured pencils to create your own pieces influenced by the artist’s style.

The box features a detail of Bomberg’s Study for ‘Vision of Ezekiel’, c.1912, alongside a detail of the finished painting. The set contents are:

  • 12 medium graphite pencils for blending, shading and fine detail: 4H, 3H, 2H, H, F, HB, B, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B, 6B
  • 12 soft lead coloured pencils: white, orange, yellow, soft peach, red, plum, azure, true blue, lush green, grass, burnt sienna, and black.
  • A medium grain A5 drawing paper pad, made of heavyweight cartridge paper
    • The set is part of our selection of high quality art materials inspired by Tate collection artists, created in collaboration with Winsor & Newton.

    About the artist

    David Bomberg (1890 – 1957) was the most audacious painter of his generation at the Slade. His treatment of the human figure, in terms of angular, clear-cut forms charged with enormous energy, reveals his determination to bring about a drastic renewal in British painting. With the advent of World War I, everything changed dramatically and his harrowing experiences at the Front brought about a profound transformation in his outlook.

    Delivery times

    We aim to deliver stocked shop products within:

    International – 2-4 weeks

    For made-to-order items, including framed custom prints, furniture, lighting and rugs, we aim to deliver within:

    UK – 1-2 weeks

    International – 2-4 weeks

    Please note that some items are dispatched separately if they are made to order (such as coffee, custom prints and custom print clothing, neon lights or furniture). This means that if you order these items alongside other shop products, they won’t all arrive together, and you’ll get several deliveries.

    If the delivery time frame for each item has ended and you’re still waiting for something from your order, please get in touch and we’ll investigate for you.

    Delivery costs

    We currently offer free standard delivery on UK orders over £60. Please note that this is offer is valid only online. Our other delivery costs are as follows.

    For orders under £60:

    UK – £3.60 per order

    European Union – £15 per order

    Rest of world (including non-EU European countries) – £28 per order

    Limited editions

    Due to the nature of our Limited Edition artworks, Tate offers rates for packaging materials to sufficiently protect the works and a fully insured, door-to-door courier service, for both UK and international shipping.

    USA & Canada – £80 each
    European Union – £120 each
    Rest of world (including non-EU European countries) – £150 each
     
     

    Rugs

    Rugs are dispatched directly from the Christopher Farr workshop, so they will arrive separately from any other items ordered from Tate Shop.

    Goldfinger + Tate furniture

    As each item of furniture is made to order, delivery takes 12-14 weeks, and will arrive separately to any other items in your Tate Shop order.

    UK – £150 per order using a specialist white-glove delivery service. An access check can be arranged for £80.
     

    Food & Wine

    Our collection of food and wine is only available for delivery in the UK. We currently offer free delivery on wine orders over £100, using a specialist white glove service within the M25 area.

    Wine: UK only – £20 per order

    Please note that our wines can only be purchased by those aged 18 years and over. Customers will be asked to provide proof of age upon delivery.

    Refunds & returns

    Please contact our customer service team within 45 days if you need to return anything from your order. We will be happy to offer you a full refund, replacement or exchange on any items excluding custom prints, Goldfinger + Tate furniture, face coverings and pierced earrings. We cannot cover the cost of returning the items, unless we've made a mistake or they are faulty.
