Monro’s tranquil pop art screenprint depicts sailboats on a river. The simple yet effective colour palette, limited to red, blue and cream, adds to the nautical feel. Monro used screen printing for his pop art prints, a technique where mesh is used to transfer ink onto a surface. Layers of ink can be built up, with some areas protected from saturation by blocks or ink-resistant coatings.

Born in London, 1936, Nicholas Monro is an English sculptor, print-maker and art teacher, well known for both his brightly coloured prints and his large scale fiberglass sculptures. He is one of the few British pop artists who specialises in both sculpture and print.
