Additional Information

In this piece, Sonia Boyce explores her growing frustration towards her Christian upbringing, and its use as a tool of Imperial control. The writing on the wall behind the figures reads ’Missionary Position II / position changing’. Both figures are modelled on Boyce herself- the upright figure in yellow prays with eyes closed, whilst the figure in red reclines, her hand outstretched towards the other. The inscription at the bottom reads: ‘Laard but look my trials nuh - they say keep politics out of religion and religion out of politics but when were they ever seperate? [sic] Laard give me strength’.
