Charlock cushion

This rectangular yellow and grey woven cushion is named after the flower of the charlock plant, a bright yellow bloom also known as field mustard.

Woven in a mix of linen and wool, the interplay of these natural yarns gives a dimpled, tactile texture to the geometric pattern. The back of the cushion is a solid slate grey wool, complementing the front design – an exclusive colourway just for Tate.

Eleanor Pritchard is a British textile designer, creating designs and fabrics inspired by traditional textile craft, reinterpreted for a contemporary audience. Each design is drafted and sampled in her Deptford studio on her peg-and-lag dobby loom. After she’s finalised the fabric, she writes up all the notes and specifications and sends them to one of the 3 British mills she works with, where they recreate it in every detail, creating the beautiful, traditionally crafted items available here.

If your cushion needs to be cleaned, we’d recommend professional dry cleaning only. To avoid damage from wool-loving clothes moths, regularly plump and shake your cushion. If putting into storage, make sure that your cushion is clean, dry and wrapped in a sealed bag or container.
