Sargent's Impressionist painting depicts two girls lighting Japanese lanterns in a rose and lily filled garden and was painted in the Cotswolds. Polly and Dorothy (Dolly) Barnard, the daughters of the illustrator Frederick Barnard were the models, because they had the exact hair colour Sargent was seeking. Dolly, aged eleven, is on the left; Polly, aged seven, is on the right.
This art print is 30 x 40 cm, including an artwork credit line printed under the image and a white border. It’s printed on responsibly sourced Mondi 300gsm paper by our Sussex-based printers. The paper is FSC certified and responsibly sourced.
About the artist
John Singer Sargent (1856–1925) was an American painter, considered the most fashionable portrait painter working in England and the USA in the late 19th century. During his early career in 1880s he was influenced by his friend Monet towards Impressionism, but by the 1890s had success with society portraits. After 1900 Sargent spent his summers on long sketching holidays and shocked social circles when he decided to give up portraiture in favour of landscapes. In 1918 he worked as a war artist and from 1890 until c. 1925 he painted murals for Boston Library and Museum.

Due to the nature of our Limited Edition artworks, Tate offers rates for packaging materials to sufficiently protect the works and a fully insured, door-to-door courier service, for both UK and international shipping.
Rugs
Rugs are dispatched directly from the Christopher Farr workshop, so they will arrive separately from any other items ordered from Tate Shop.

As each item of furniture is made to order, delivery takes 12-14 weeks, and will arrive separately to any other items in your Tate Shop order.

Our collection of food and wine is only available for delivery in the UK. We currently offer free delivery on wine orders over £100, using a specialist white glove service within the M25 area.
Wine: UK only – £20 per order
Please note that our wines can only be purchased by those aged 18 years and over. Customers will be asked to provide proof of age upon delivery.

We will be happy to offer you a full refund, replacement or exchange on any items excluding custom prints, Goldfinger + Tate furniture, face coverings and pierced earrings. We cannot cover the cost of returning the items, unless we've made a mistake or they are faulty.
